COBIT Solutions
The Standard
Control Objectives for Information and related Technology (COBIT), now in its 3rd edition, enables an organization to effectively implement IT governance over the technologies it employs. Using a set of 34 high-level Control Objectives, grouped into four domains (Planning and Organization, Acquisition and Implementation, Delivery and Support, and Monitoring), COBIT establishes a framework that yields comprehensive management over the IT lifecycle.
The Challenge
Because the IT governance established by COBIT provides the structure that links IT processes, resources, and information to the strategies and objectives of the organization, COBIT has a common focus on assessing, processing and reporting vital information to make decisions that move the IT lifecycle to the next step.
Windows-based networks, while robust in their administrative capabilities, lack the assessment and reporting capabilities required by COBIT for success. Additionally, specific security features mandated within COBIT also require 3rd party tools to implement.

Acquire and Maintain Technology Infrastructure – Active Directory (AD) serves as the main infrastructure for Windows-based networks. Active Administrator provides the security model, the change control and auditing capabilities required by COBIT to maintain AD.
Manage Changes – One control under this objective focuses on the managed distribution of software. Desktop Authority's Application Launcher, mixed with the power of Validation Logic ensures software is delivered in a timely manner to the appropriate clients.
Ensure Continuous Service –Active Administrator's Object-level backup and restore capability gives higher availability to Active Directory without the need for offline restores.
Ensure Systems Security – Secure AD both proactively and reactively with Active Administrator, use Enterprise Security Reporter to report on server security, and use Desktop Authority’s Spyware Detection & Removal and Patch Deployment for Desktops options to secure the desktop.
Assist and Advise Customers – Utilize Desktop Authority's Remote Management client to assist in establishing a support desk function.
Manage the Configuration – Utilize Active Administrator’s self-healing Active Templates to proactively establish and reactively enforce the security configuration of AD.
Manage Data – Provide backup and restore capabilities for AD and NTFS security with Active Administrator and Security Explorer.
Monitor the Process – Use Patch Authority Ultimate’s comprehensive reporting functionality to generate reports specifically targeted at management to convey the current status of patching enterprise-wide.
