Drive Mapping using Desktop Authority

Drive Mapping provides quick access to commonly used folders. It also provide an easier way for users to navigate and find the files and/or folders they are looking for. Rather than searching through tons of network drives and folders for a file, simply point and click on the drive that houses it.

The process of Drive Mapping, behind the scenes, redirects a local resource (drive letter) to a shared network resource (hard drive or folder on the network). Network administrators who use Desktop Authority Express for drive mapping, the otherwise complex, cumbersome process is made simple.

There is no need for them to visit each desktop in an enterprise; Desktop Authority Express manages drive mappings from a central location. The Validation Logic technology in Desktop Authority Express provides the ability to configure specific drive mappings using over 25 different validation types, including the class of the computer (e.g. desktop, notebook), operating system, group membership, Active Directory sites, Organizational Units, and registry and file properties. Custom validation types can also be added.

Drive Mapping

Let's say there is a specific folder for departmental data. The Accounting department has specialized programs that no user outside the accounting department and executives have a need to access. The folder containing these programs is \\fileserver\Applications\Accounting. Using the Drive Mapping capability in Desktop Authority Express, simply specify the drive letter and path to map and select the Accounting and Executives user groups in the Validation Logic. Once this configuration is saved and published, any user that logs in and is validated to be part of the Accounting or Executives user groups will receive the correct drive mapping.
