Desktop Authority® Image Center™- Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use a single image for all my desktops, regardless of hardware?
- Image Center allows you to supply drivers and HALs to ensure deployed images work on target machines. See the Knowledge Base for tips on using an image on different hardware.
Do I have to purchase Desktop Authority as well?
- No! DA Image Center is a standalone product, but in order to have a more comprehensive desktop management lifecycle, we recommend you look into Desktop Authority and the other companion products as well.
What is new in version 3.0?
- Wake-On-LAN, scheduled and automated imaging, centralized disk erase capability, computers that can reboot into imaging mode, standalone utility for roaming admins, ability to select imaging templates, workstation and server licensing, and now, Windows Server 2008 and full Vista support.
Do I have to deploy images to computers one-by-one?
- You can send one or more images simultaneously to multiple computers using individual ‘unicast’ communication, and Image Center also offers a multicast mode where multiple machines can receive the same image simultaneously.
What about things like naming the machine and joining the domain? Do I need to do that manually, post-imaging?
- No! With Image Center, those tasks and others such as configuring network settings and running custom scripts are part of Image Center’s post-deployment customization and are automated.
