Desktop Authority® Licensing
How is Desktop Authority licensed?
-
Desktop Authority is licensed based on the total number of unique Seats which are managed in whole or part by Desktop Authority. “Seat” is a desktop, laptop, or workstation computer, or thin-client session or any other user computing device.
Example 1:
Company A has 5000 users who use 4500 desktop PCs, 300 Tablet PCs, 1250 Laptops and 500 Thin Clients (connecting to Windows Terminal Server or Citrix Presentation Server). They need 4500+300+1250+500 = 6550 licenses
Example 2:
College A has 10,000 users who have access to 2000 desktop PCs, and 1000 Thin Client (Windows Terminal) devices. They need 2000+1000 = 3000 licenses.
Desktop Authority is also available in an "Express" licensing mode, where its user configuration functionality is available but the desktop management features (reporting, inventory, remote management, etc) are disabled. Speak to your sales representative if you are interested in this option.
Do I need different licenses for managing workstations and servers?
- No. Desktop Authority doesn’t have different licenses for workstations and servers. Each license can be used for a server or a workstation. This also applies for the additional components, allowing you to patch and protect servers without purchasing server-specific licenses.
What user license quantities are available?
- Licenses are available in any quantity above the minimum of 10.
What happens if I exceed my license count?
- Using ScriptLogic products in excess of the licenses you have purchased and installed is a violation of the End User License Agreement (EULA). To avoid disruption to the users’ productivity, Desktop Authority will not lock out unlicensed computers, but if your usage exceeds your license then warning messages will be displayed to users and administrators.
How do I find out how many licenses I have installed and used?
- In the Desktop Authority Manager, click on "ScriptLogic today" in the tree view. This reveals the System Dashboard which displays the number of user licenses used and available.
How do I upgrade to the Remote Support Center console?
- Desktop Authority users can pick from 2 remote support consoles: Current DA remote support console and Remote Support Center console
Each Desktop Authority license will also include 1 Remote Support Center license. The InstantAssist and Internet Gateway can be added as options.
To use the Remote Support Center (RSC) console as a replacement for the Desktop Authority remote management console, administrators should install RSC per the RSC installation guide. Then, you can simply create the ExpertAssist deployment package in the RSC console and copy that package to a location on the Desktop Authority server specified in the Desktop Authority Install/Upgrade Guide. Desktop Authority will then copy and install the agent on all managed computers that had the Desktop Authority remote management agent installed.
How is the USB and Port Security Option licensed?
- The USB and Port Security (UPS) option is licensed on a per-seat basis as an extra cost item. You must purchase 1 UPS license for every base Desktop Authority license you own, except for desktops running platforms which are not supported by UPS at the time of writing UPS supports Windows 2000 SP4 with URP 1, Windows XP SP2 and Windows Vista.
How is the Patch Management Option licensed?
- The Patch Deployment for Desktops (PDD) option is licensed on a per-desktop basis as a term license. You must purchase 1 PDD license for every base Desktop Authority license you own, except for computers running Windows 95, 98 or ME, thin client devices and Terminal Server sessions, because Desktop Authority cannot patch those systems.
How is the Spyware Removal Option licensed?
- The Spyware Removal (SPY) option is licensed on a per-desktop basis as a subscription for 12, 24 or 36 months. You must purchase 1 SPY license for every base Desktop Authority license you own, except for computers running Windows 95, thin client devices and Terminal Server sessions, because Desktop Authority cannot scan and remove spyware from those systems.
Is an evaluation license available? What restrictions does it have?
- Yes, a 30-day evaluation license is available from http://www.scriptlogic.com. The only restriction is that it expires after 30 days, and reminders that the evaluation period is nearing its end will appear after 23 days.
Can I extend my evaluation?
I'd like to purchase Desktop Authority. Will I have to uninstall the evaluation version and/or reinstall Desktop Authority once I purchase the appropriate license?
- No, all that is required is to enter in the registration code you received with your purchase to convert the evaluation edition to the full product.
