ScriptLogic Online Licensing Verification (SOLV) Frequently Asked Questions

• Which products use ScriptLogic Online License Verification (SOLV)?
  • MSI Studio 4.0 and higher
  • Secure Copy 5.0
  • More products are planned to use SOLV in the coming months


• How does SOLV work?
  • A product that uses SOLV takes the unique license code assigned to each customer, and communicates that to the ScriptLogic servers over the Internet to establish which features and options you are licensed to use.
    
    SOLV communicates with the ScriptLogic licensing server when there has been a change in the licensing of the product (e.g. extra installations, management of new servers) and generally every 30 days.
    
    
    


• What information does SOLV store if I select Full Licensing Management?
  • For MSI Studio, SOLV stores the names of all users who run MSI Studio (i.e. DOMAIN\username)
  • For Secure Copy, SOLV stores the names of all source and destination servers


• What happens if I select Limited Licensing Management?
  • ScriptLogic cannot tell how your licenses are registered, used or deployed. For example, if your 3 MSI Studio licenses have been registered to 3 users we will not be able to tell you who they are — you will need to keep your own records of these details.


• Is SOLV secure?
  • Yes, all communication through SOLV uses 128-bit SSL encryption.


• How is my privacy affected by SOLV?
  • SOLV was designed to protect your privacy!
    The information communicated to the ScriptLogic servers cannot be used to determine any information about your specific computers or network, unless you select Full License Management. To see what information is stored in Full License Management mode, see the FAQ above regarding this topic. Remember that the information is encrypted as it communicates with the ScriptLogic servers using 128-bit SSL technology, so it cannot be viewed by anyone else.


• Is SOLV Spyware?
  • No.


• Why can’t you just give me a license file?
  • SOLV helps to reduce your administrative burden of ensuring you remain in compliance with your end user license agreement.
    


• What if I want to move my license?
  • Check the terms of the license agreement which is supplied with your product.
    
    When permitted, you can apply to move your license online using the SOLV Self-Serve web site http://www.scriptlogic.com/phlcp/RemovalRequestPage.aspx
